Bishu Shanzhuang Quantu (Full Map of the Mountain Resort)

Sketched in Guangxu Period (ca. 1900), Qing Dynasty. Horizontal hanging scroll.

The Bishu Shanzhuang (Mountain Resort), also known as the "Chengde Palace" or "Rehe Palace", is located at Rehe (named as Chengde today) of Hebei Province. The palatial resort was nominally a summer retreat for the Qing emperors but actually, it could also be seen as the second capital for the Qing court. This massive map of Bishu Shanzhuang adopted traditional Chinese landscape painting techniques to feature the imperial resort, the Wai Ba Miao (Eight Outlying Temples), and the scenic landscape of the surrounding hills.
