Zizhi Tongjian (Comprehensive Mirror to Aid in Government), incomplete manuscript

The Zizhi Tongjian compiled by Sima Guang and other scholars in the Northern Song Dynasty was a pioneering reference work in Chinese historiography in the form of chronicles. It chronologically narrates the history of China from the Warring States to the Five Dynasties (403 BC - AD 959), covering 16 dynasties and spanning across 1,362 years. The incomplete manuscript on exhibition recorded the historical events in the 1st year of the Yongchang Period (AD 322) of Emperor Yuan, Eastern Jin Dynasty. Some scholars considered it a draft manuscript of the Tong Zhi (Comprehensive Records) or the first draft of the Zizhi Tongjian.
