Tao Shu was a renowned official during the Jiaqing and Daoguang Periods of the Qing Dynasty. This album of his presented the scenes of Nanjing, Suzhou, Yangzhou and Hangzhou. It featured a special technique of making rubbings from engraved stones, the so-called "wujin ta" (black gold rubbings), which were made with lustrous black ink on thick paper and burnished with a polishing shell.
