Putonghua and Chinese dialects
Chinese is the subfamily of Sino-Tibetan language family. Putonghua, also known as Mandarin or Standard Chinese, is the official language of the People's Republic of China, Taiwan and one of the official languages of Singapore. There are hundreds of Chinese dialects in China and can be classified into seven categories, Guan, Yue (e.g. Cantonese), Wu, Min, Hakka, Xiang, Gan.
